Digital Design for Sustainability
Caitlin Lu and Maidah Salman explore the intersection of digital design, sustainability, and community-driven practices through hands-on workshops and collaborative research. Their work investigates how digital tools can minimize material waste while expanding creative possibilities, emphasizing the importance of balancing print and digital, tradition and innovation, and impact and accessibility.
Workshop 1 focused on projection mapping as a low-waste alternative for transforming spaces. Participants explored how light and motion could create immersive experiences without the need for physical materials, demonstrating how digital interventions can be both adaptable and resource-conscious.
Workshop 2 expanded on these ideas through 3D modeling and video editing, allowing participants to experiment with prototyping and storytelling in digital spaces. By working with tools like Blender and DaVinci Resolve, they explored new ways to create impactful, narrative-driven design while reducing material constraints.
This research was presented at Design Incubation 2024, contributing to the broader conversation on how digital methodologies can support sustainable design practices.
